Salt added to a few Solid Gold dry dog foods.

Date: Nov 8, 2011

Due to the formulation changes described in the last News article below, a few of our dry foods required the addition of salt. This addition was necessary because the raw ingredients in the new formula did not provide enough naturally occurring sodium to meet the minimum required levels to maintain the health of adult dogs and puppies. Sodium is a necessary mineral that aids in many functions of the body, not the least of which is the heart beat. Salt (NaCl) is the easiest and best way of increasing the sodium levels in those dry foods that needed extra sodium. The actual sodium levels of the foods have not increased with the new formula.
Due to an excess inventory of bags with the old ingredient panels, we applied stickers with the correct, new ingredient panel over the old ingredient panel. However, some of these bags still have the claim, No Salt Added; on the bulleted points on the back of the bag. The new bags with new formulations have this omitted. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this transitional period.

Dry Food Ingredient Changes

Date: Aug 16, 2011

As many of you know we brought in a second manufacturing facility at the beginning of the year. Through our research and development with the new mill, we decided to make a few upgrades to our formulas to improve the overall quality of our diets. These foods include Barking at the Moon, MMillennia, Hundchen Flocken, Holistique Blendz, Katz-N-Flocken, and Indigo Moon.
All the foods listed above now contain peas and we also added egg to MMillennia, Holistique Blendz, Barking at the Moon, and Hundchen Flocken. Through our testing we found adding peas and eggs to our dry foods increases digestibility and reduces the overall ash content.
The new formulas will be entering the marketplace as we deplete our supply of older bags. The bags will be labeled with the up to date formula as well as having a notice on the front of the bag indicating changes have been made to the formulations.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause our customers. Our testing with these new formulas have been very positive but we understand that formula changes can sometimes be a little concerning to pet parents. We want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to make this transition as smooth as possible.

For many years our dry dog and cat foods have been made in two different manufacturing facilities in California and Missouri. The areas referenced above have always received food that was manufactured in the California plant. However, for the foreseeable future, all our dry foods will be manufactured in the Missouri plant. Food manufactured on different machinery can have subtle differences in appearance. The kibble shape may be slightly larger or smaller. In addition the raw materials are sourced from different regions of the US, which may account for variances in color. If you happen to encounter this, there is no need to worry. The formulas are identical.

As always, please feel free to contact us directly with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Tiny Tots Dog Treat Voluntary Product Withdrawal

Date: Oct 13, 2008

Due to some instances of mold growth in a single batch of Tiny Tots, we have decided to voluntarily withdraw the entire production run from the market. We would like to assure our customers that there have been no reported serious health effects on dogs that have consumed Tiny Tots from this batch.

If you have a bag of Tiny Tots with a Best Before date of April 2009, please return it to your retail store for a full refund. No other batches of Tiny Tots or any of our other jerky treats are affected.

Solid Gold is committed to producing the healthiest food, treats, and supplements for your pet. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please contact us at 800-364-4863 or online at dane@solidgoldhealth.com.

Ingredient Sourcing

We would like to assure our customers that all the ingredients in Solid Gold products are sourced domestically with three exceptions. The lamb meal used in our dry foods is sourced from New Zealand, which produces some of the cleanest meat in the world. The potato protein used in Barking at the Moon is sourced in Europe. Our Blended Tuna canned cat food is produced in an American owned plant in Thailand, due to the lack of tuna processing plants in the United States.
